Article Databases

Here are some places you can find articles from newspapers, magazines, and scholarly journals. Remember that you will have to login with your myNOVA username and password (the same ones you use to access Blackboard, student email, etc.) when off-campus.

Periodical Types

Articles are published in periodicals, which is any type of publication published at a regular interval (weeks, months, etc.).  Periodical types include magazines, newspapers, trade publications, and scholarly journals.  More information on finding peer-reviewed articles.

Search Tips

Select the most important 2-3 ideas related to your topic. Put the word AND between each new word or idea; this tells the database to look for resources with ALL your terms.

Use quotation marks ( "  " ) around phrases (two or more words); this tells the database to look for the words in a specific order.

"human rights" AND Darfur

Use an asterisk ( * ) to find multiple versions of one word. Using polit* as a search term will include results that refer to political, politics, politician, etc.
