In line with our mission to provide reliable and user-friendly access to the world of information, the Annandale Campus Library lends laptop computers to registered NOVACard users. Our primary goal in lending technology is to support the academic success of our students. These wifi enabled devices can be used anywhere on the Annandale Campus for up to 4 hours at a time. As these laptops represent a significant investment by the Library and IT, all users are expected to maintain proper supervision and care of the equipment. Users must abide by the College’s Computer Use Agreement.
Monday to Sunday: 7am to 10pm
- Laptops are for ON ANNANDALE CAMPUS USE ONLY and must remain on the premises of the Annandale Campus.
-Standard loan period is 4 hours. A shorter loan period will result if Kiosk closes within 4 hours of checkout.
-Overdue laptops will charge the user a late fee of $4 per hour, or any portion thereof.

Users are fully responsible for the care of the laptop and all of its components during the life of the loan. If a problem occurs while in use, please report to library staff before returning equipment. If the Library is closed, return the laptop and contact the Library the following business day.
Save files to a removable drive or the cloud (Google Drive, Dropbox, etc). Upon return, laptops are reimaged and all files erased and unrecoverable.
Anti-virus software is installed on all laptops. The Library is not responsible for viruses transferred during use.
Secure laptop completely in open and designated Dell or MacBook slot. If user is unable to secure device in Kiosk, please see a library staff member. If the Library is closed, users are responsible for the laptop until the next business day and may accrue all associated late fees.
NEVER leave a laptop unsecured or unattended.
NEVER return the laptop to the book-drop.
Upon return, the Kiosk will perform a final check to ensure the laptop is undamaged.
Notification will be sent to the last user if damage is detected.
Laptops returned after closing time will continue to accrue hourly late fees.
*In the event of an emergency or building closure, users are responsible for the laptop until access to the Kiosk is restored. Library Staff can assist in clearing any related fines or blocks.
Overdue laptops will charge the user a late fee of $4 per hour, or any portion thereof.
Late fees accrue according to real time. Do not rely on the laptop clock for the correct time.
A 15 minute grace period will be honored. Fees accrued during the grace period will be waived the following business day. If the Library is open, users can request a grace period waiver at the Circulation Desk.
Damage or replacement costs will be determined by the Technology Librarian.
Violation of these Terms of Service may result in loss of library laptop privileges. Unpaid fines or replacement fees (for damaged equipment) will result in blocks to your library account and academic records. Blocks on academic records will prevent students from graduating, registering for classes and receiving transcripts.
How long can I keep a laptop?

What is expected battery life?
The battery should last 4 hours. If the battery dies during use, please report to library staff.
How do I connect to NOVA wifi?
Select NOVAWifi from wireless network options, then enter Directory\your MyNOVA username and password to login.
What happens if I lose or damage the laptop equipment?
Users are responsible for loss or damage. Please report loss or damage to a library staff member before returning the laptop to the kiosk. Damage or replacement costs will be determined by the Technology Librarian.
What should I do if the laptop is not functioning properly?
Please see a library staff member for assistance.
Do you restrict where I can take the laptop computer?
Laptops must remain on the Annandale Campus.
When I return a laptop, what happens to files that I've saved to the computer?
Our laptops are wiped clean to protect your privacy. Upon return, files are erased and non-recoverable. Save work to removable storage or save to the cloud (Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.)
What should I do if the laptop will not fit securely in the Kiosk?
Make sure you are returning the device to a slot designated for the type of computer on loan. Dell slots are not the same as MacBook slots. If you are still having problems, please see library staff. If the Library is closed, users are responsible for the laptop until the next business day and may accrue all associated late fees.
What if there is a campus emergency and access to the building is blocked?
In the event of an emergency or building closure, users are responsible for the laptop until access to the Kiosk is restored. Library Staff can assist in clearing any related fines or blocks.
What operating system do these computers run on?
The Dell Latitudes operate on Windows 10. The MacBooks are loaded with a recent version of Mojave.
What other software do you include?
All computers come equipped with Office 2016. Dell Computers also come equipped with Adobe Acrobat, Chrome, and Firefox.
Can I print from this computer?
Yes, you can use the document upload option of NOVA’s pay-for-print AcePrint system. Go to aceprint.nvcc.edu to access this system.
Why can’t I download software that I need to complete my assignment?
For security reasons, users are unable to download/ update software onto the computers.
How much does it cost to borrow a laptop?
There is no cost to borrow a laptop. Users must have a NOVACard and an active MyNOVA account.
Are there any hidden fees?
No, but there are late fees and replacement fees if the laptop is lost or stolen.
What is the fine for returning a laptop late?
$4 per hour or any portion thereof.
What if I'm just a couple of minutes late? Is there a grace period?
Yes, we will honor a 15 minute grace period. Fees accrued during the grace period will be waived the following business day. If the library is open, users can request a grace period waiver at the Circulation Desk.
