After you have determined the specific controversy you want to write about, you can use these online collections of articles to learn more:

Why Use a Magazine, Journal or Newspaper Article?

Magazines, journals and newspapers:

  • Provide detailed information about a specific aspect of a topic.
  • Report on events, issues, or scholarly research.
  • Provide up-to-date information.

Magazines, journals and newspapers typically do NOT provide a summary or overview of a topic.

Search Tips

  • Use only the most essential words related to your topic
  • Put the word AND between each new idea.  For example:

    mexico AND cartels AND poverty
    "civil war" AND hunger AND sudan
    conflict AND hunger AND sudan
    haiti AND earthquake AND food
    haiti AND earthquake AND humanitarian project

    syrian AND "refugee camps" AND stress

  • Use related terms to improve your results.  For example, civil war and conflict are related terms.
  • Use quotation marks for phrases:  "civil war"
