ENG 111: College Composition I (Pierce-Loudoun)

This guide has been created by librarians at NOVA to help you find books, articles, videos, and other types of resources related to this program of study. Direct comments to Barbie Keiser, bkeiser@nvcc.edu.

Getting Started with Research

1. Do you prefer taking notes on paper or on a computer? How will you keep track of your research?

2. Have you selected a topic? Brainstorm 5-10 related search terms BEFORE you start your research.

For example: Search terms for "Ragnarok" could include the name of the myth and/or elements of the story: names of the gods involved, place names, words to describe what happens in the story like destruction, war, fighting, the types of animals described, elements of the actual history or geography surrounding the myth, etc.

3. Save what you find (print it or email it to yourself).
