Guide to Course Reserves: Creating/Editing a Course

Creating a Course

1. Navigate to Courses (Fulfillment > Course Reserves > Courses). Click "Add New Course."

2. Enter the following mandatory and recommended information:

Mandatory
  • Code – This is the course ID. Enter the three letter department code, then a space, then the course number. (ex. ENG 111)
  • Name – Use the official name of the course.
  • Processing Department – There is only one, Courses – Processing Departments.
  • Section – Enter your campus name here (ex. Alexandria)
  • Start and End Dates -  Set your start date for whenever you want the course to be available. Unless your course is a one-off, set the end date years out.

Note: In the past, searchable IDs have been filled out, but they do not help the findability of items in Primo. You can skip this step.

Optional

Instructors tab – Use drop-down box to find instructor, click Add Instructor button. You can add multiple instructors.

Note: Instructor will not be a search filter in Primo but recording the instructors who donate materials is helpful for you to contact in case of updates, etc.

3. Once complete, click Save in the top right corner.

Editing a Course

If you need to edit your course record after you’ve saved it, find your course in the list (Fulfillment > Courses) and click the ellipse button. Click Edit to make changes, then Save when complete.

Removing a Course

If a course is no longer being offered, then it can be deleted. Before removing a course, confirm that you have withdrawn or moved all items. Deleting a course will not automatically withdraw/delete items. It is good practice to also delete contained citations and reading lists to ensure you have properly withdrawn all items.

Once you have confirmed that the course no longer contains any items, click on the ellipses, then select Delete.
