Databases with Magazine, Newspaper, and Journal Articles

ProQuest Research Library and Global Newsstream has magazines, journals, and newspapers, including the Washington Post, New York Times, and Wall Street Journal, as well as many regional newspapers.

Academic Search Complete has magazines and journals. To add more resources in additional subject areas, click on "Choose Databases" above the search box.

Search Tips

Select the most important 2-4 words related to your topic.  Put the word AND between each new word or idea; this tells the database to look for resources with ALL your terms.

deforestation AND orangutans


Use quotation marks ( "  " ) around phrases (two or more words); this tells the database to look for the words right next to each other.

"palm oil" AND deforestation

Use synonyms and related terms:

"global warming" AND"ice melt"
"global warming" AND glaciers
"global warming" AND "arctic ice"

Use the database's filters:

Full Text
Source Type
Publication Date

Look at the number of results.
Too Many: Add keywords or be more specific.
Too Few: Change keywords or make them more broad.

Magazines, journals and newspapers:

  • Provide detailed information about a specific aspect of a topic.
  • Report on events, issues or scholarly research.
  • Are good sources for current or recent information.

Magazines, journals and newspapers typically do NOT provide a summary or overview of a topic.
