Opposing Viewpoints

Opposing Viewpoints offers a variety of resources on current social topics and includes viewpoints (pro/con essays), academic journal articles, news, images, video, audio, and more to support differing views and help you develop critical thinking skills and draw your own conclusions.

Searching in Opposing Viewpoints

  • Perform a search in the Opposing Viewpoints database to locate articles and other resources on your topic. 
  • Remember not to write sentences in the search box.  Search by topic or keyword or browse issues.
    • Suggested Keywords:
      • free college tuition OR tuition-free college
      • free community college
      • college costs 
      • student loans
      • college affordability
  • When you select a topic from the 'Browse Issues' list, you will be directed to the topic page. Topic pages include an overview article on the topic and links to relevant resources about the issue.
    • Suggested Topic Pages:
      • College Tuition and Student Loans
      • Higher Education
  • Look for related articles or subjects offered.
  • Look for toolbars that provide print, email, and citation options.

Citation Tool in Opposing Viewpoints

Most databases include a citation tool. Here is how you find it in Opposing Viewpoints:

1. Click the link to the article.

2. In the upper toolbar, click the Cite icon.

3. The citation tool defaults to the MLA 8th Edition.

4. Copy and paste the citation into your document or export it to a bibliographic management software program using the links below.
