Researching Diabetes in the Endocrine System

Diabetes mellitus: "Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder in which the pancreas no longer produces or fails to produce enough insulin and/or cells stop responding to the insulin that is produced, so that glucose in the blood cannot be absorbed into cells to be used for energy. There are three major types of diabetes. In type 1 diabetes, the pancreas does not produce insulin. In type 2 diabetes, insulin production is reduced while cells become less responsive to the insulin that is produced. Gestational diabetes is diabetes that occurs during pregnancy and disappears after the woman gives birth." Gale Encyclopedia of Public Health, 2020.
