Creating Persistent URLs for Ovid: Books & Ovid Journals

★ Persistent links in Ovid Books are called Jumpstart URLs

Steps:

  1. After you navigate to the chapter of the book you want, click on the link at the top of page that says Email Jumpstart.

    location of Email Jumpstart link

  2. A new box pops up. Highlight and copy the URL in the box at the top (it's usually very long- be sure to get the entire thing). Note that you can also email the URL to yourself, if you wish.

    copy & paste Jumpstart URL

  3. Add the following prefix to the front of the URL:
    http://eznvcc.vccs.edu:2048/login?url=

  4. Example of a "proxied" persistent link:
    http://eznvcc.vccs.edu:2048/login?url=http://ovidsp.ovid.com/ovidweb.cgi?T=JS&CSC=Y&NEWS=N&PAGE=booktext&D=books2&AN=00139928/4th_Edition/2&XPATH=/OVIDBOOK%5b1%5d/TXTBKBD%5b1%5d/DIVISIONA%5b8%5d/CHAPTER%5b12%5d
  5. To shorten the link, you may want to plug it into a site like Bitly (http://bitly.com/), which will convert the link into a smaller one that is easier to work with. The links never expire.
