Putting a Block on a Patron Record

These instructions are for putting a block on a patron's library account/borrowing privileges.

Required Role: Circulation Desk Operator or Manager OR Circulation Desk Operator – Limited (student workers)


1. Select Fulfillment from the side navigation and choose Manage Patron Services from the menu.


2. Search for the patron by entering their MyNOVA username or EMPLID (student ID number). Select the patron from the drop-down menu and click Go.


3. Patron information shows. Click the linked MyNOVA username in the ID field to view user details/patron record.


4. Alma defaults to the Identifiers tab. To add a block, select the Blocks tab, then click Add Block on the right hand side of the screen. Select the appropriate Block description from the drop-down, You may also add a Note. Click Add and Close.


5. The block is now visible on User Details screen. (You can edit by opening the ellipse button and choosing Edit from the drop-down menu.) When complete Click Save in the upper right of the page.


6. The block window will now appear anytime you go to the User's patron services screen. Fulfillment staff may override a block when appropriate.

Deleting a Block

These instructions are for removing or deleting a block on a patron's library account.

Required Role: Circulation Desk Operator or Manager OR Circulation Desk Operator – Limited (student workers)


1. Select Fulfillment from the side navigation and choose Manage Patron Services from the menu.


2. Scan in the patron’s barcode or type in EMPLID. Click Go.


3. The Block notice appears. Click OK.


4. Patron information shows. Click the linked MyNOVA username in the ID field to view user details/patron record.


5. Alma defaults to the Identifiers tab. To remove a block, select the Blocks tab, then click the ellipse on the right side of the block you wish to delete. Open the drop-down menu and click Delete. The Block is deleted without any confirmation request. Click Save on the upper right of the screen.
