Processing In-Transit Items from LTS and ICLs

Items from LTS (Library Technical Services): This process is mandatory in order to have the items show up correctly in your campus/library holdings in Primo. Do not use 'Return Items' to scan in items from LTS. Scanning a newly received item in 'Return Items' will record a false In-House Use.

When LTS has completed cataloging or re-cataloging an item in Alma and sends it to the campuses, Alma will have the item recorded as “In Transit”.

Per our Ex Libris Trainer: “Items are created at the point of order. At that point, and until they are fully received and in transit to the destination library, they appear as In a Process of Technical Services. They will remain in this process until LTS finishes the technical services work, at which point they will appear to be in Transit until they are scanned in at the circulation desk. The student may be able to see the item in Primo, but until it is scanned in at the circulation desk, it will not appear as on shelf.”

All new items must be scanned into Alma through the Scan in Items module in order to change the location to On Shelf, and have it appear as 'On Shelf' in your campus library.

ICLs sent or returned from other campus libraries: This process will generate the new destination, i.e. what to do with the item - reshelve to x location (circulation, course reserves), place on hold shelf, send to another campus library, etc.

Required Roles: Circulation Desk Operator or Manager OR Circulation Desk Operator – Limited (student workers)

1. Under Fulfillment, choose Scan In Items from the drop-down menu.

2. In 'Scan In Items' tab:

  • 'Automatically print slip' should be No
  • 'Register in-house use' should be UNCHECKED

3. Scan item in the 'Scan item barcode' field. Alma will populate the item's new destination: Reshelve to X, On Hold Shelf, Campus Library, etc.
